Bakersfield, CA. Dan Holtz won his second Super Late
Model race of 2003. Holtz had qualified 2nd for the AmeriPride
Uniform Service 75 at Mesa Marin Raceway on Saturday Night.
Dan Holtz started in the 3rd position in his Rialto Concrete
Products Ford Taurus. After an incident halfway through the
race Holtz found himself in the lead and pulling away. At the
same time Johnny Antonino put himself in 6th place in his
Giumarra Vineyards Grape King Car. This was Antoninos' First
start in a Super Late Model, he has spent the last two years
running the formula circuit in Europe and North America.

spun out and found himself the last car on the lead lap. As
Holtz ran away with the race Antonino picked his way through
the field and was in second place after passing 11 cars.
Antonino gave Holtz one last run after the last restart but it
wasn't enough. When asked about the race, Antonino said, "The
spin out woke me up and lit a fire under me. Gary Collins was
spotting for me and guided me back through the field. This was
a great first run for me in a Super Late Model." Holtz got a
great restart and pulled away to win the race.
Holtz is presently 5th place in points in the Southwest Tour
Series with 1 win and 1 pole. Holtz plans to run for the
championship in the Southwest Tour and in the Super Late Model
Class at Mesa Marin Raceway. Antonino plans on running
selected races in the Winston West and some Super Late Model
races in 2003. |
