Bakersfield, CA On a vintage Saturday night at Mesa Marin Raceway,
2000 MMR champion, Mike Duncan gave the appreciative race fans a
thrilling finish on his way to victory in the NASCAR Super Late
Model "Coors Light Challenge Series," presented by 3M. A
mid-summer sunset gave way to a full moon, and then the night
belonged to Duncan and the MB Duncan Motor Sports Chevrolet.
While dealing with the unenviable task of fending off series
leader and former MMR champion, Dan Holtz for the |
 |
entire race, Duncan used the # 9
car's precise setup to stage a late-race attack on pole sitter,
James Bruncati. With only thirteen laps remaining, a caution
flag allowed Duncan to make his move, pouncing on Bruncati as
they came out of turn four. A fan favorite, Mike raced the with
Bruncati for fifteen laps until finally crossing the finish line
just in front of Bruncati and Holtz.
Currently second in points for NASCAR's Winston West Championship,
Duncan enjoyed pleasing the crowd as much as he enjoyed the
great racing. "It feels good to be back out here at Mesa Marin,
and I hope the fans enjoyed the race," said Duncan. Having won
the trophy dash earlier and qualifying third for the race,
Duncan was certainly appreciative of his Crew Chief, two-time
Winston West champion, Bill Sedgwick. "Sedge did a great job
getting this car ready ," added Duncan.
Mike Duncan will be racing next at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday,
July 26. This 200-lap Winston West race should be a fierce
battle for the points lead, with Duncan sitting just sixteen
points out of first. *The July 26th race will be aired on SPEED
Channel on August 18, 8p.m. ET. |
