Eric Richardson Wins his first Late Model main event 2004

BAKERSFIELD, California -- After winning his first career Late Model Trophy Dash, Eric Richardson later went on to lead the last two-thirds of the 50 lap Late Model main event for his first feature win of 2004. Richardson was chased across the line by his cousin, and defending series champion Brian Richardson, who started deep in the field after a qualifying tenth. Michael Burrow was third, with new series point leader Josh Horn fourth and Ray Marroquin in fifth.
Marlin Gill was the only Late Model to break the 20 second mark, with a top qualifying time of 19.90 seconds.
For the first ten laps the front row starters Gil and Richardson ran door to door until Richardson finally cleared Gil coming off turn 2. David Mayhew gave chase after Richardson, with the top six nose to tail. Mayhew and Gil made contact on lap 32 which shuffled the field and put Brian Richardson on the bumper of his cousin, followed by Burrow.
A blown rear end by Doug Foos brought out the final yellow, which then set up a green-white-checker finish, with the younger Richardson winning the two lap shoot out by two car lengths.
In the West Coast Pro Truck Series 50 lap feature, it was Aaron Staudinger with the win, followed by early leader Mike Young, fast qualifier Dave Lyon, Jeff Williams and Sean Bennett rounding out the top five.
Young was the West Coast Pro Truck Series Trophy Dash winner.
The Bakersfield Police Department won the 911 main event, and Pep Robey of Bakersfield Community Church was the "Faster Pastor", beating Don Bertrand of Calvary Bible.
Mesa Marin will be in action next Saturday night with NASCAR Late Models, Street Stocks, 911 and the ChevronTexaco High School Racing Series Principals race.

MESA MARIN AND NASCAR MOVE FORWARD WITH WEEKEND EVENTS
Statement from Mesa Marin VP, Larry Collins

Bakersfield, CA – As we observe the latest information regarding the situation in Iraq, Mesa Marin and NASCAR will continue with our current schedule of events for the up coming weekend.

At the same time we will not lose sight of the sacrifices our troops and their families are making during this difficult time.  In a show of support of our troops, hundreds of American flags will be displayed during the singing of the National Anthem on Sunday prior to the start of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series “Lucas Oil 250”. Color guards representing the Navy and Air Force will be present and a Naval fly-by is scheduled.
