SRL Late Models Return to Mesa Marin

Bakersfield, CA - For the second time in 2004, the SRL Wild West Late Model Series will compete at Mesa Marin Raceway this Saturday night in the “Coors Light 100”.  The drivers of the SRL Wild West Late Model Series compete at tracks throughout Northern California, with Mesa Marin being the southern most track on the schedule.
“The S R L put on a great show here on April 17th, and we are looking forward to their return this Saturday night,” stated Mesa Marin vice president, Larry Collins.
The rules of the SRL Late Models essentially match those of NASCAR’s AutoZone Southwest Series, which has competed at Mesa Marin fifty-four times since 1987.
Bakersfield driver Craig Raudman won the SRL Wild West Late Model Series "HPS/Victory Circle 100" on April 17th at Mesa Marin, besting 27 drivers including three-time Mesa Marin track champion, Kevin Vernon and Bakersfield High School SRL Late Model Series rookie Mike Mason, who finished 9th and 8th respectively.
“I always look forward to running at home,” said Vernon.
“We were fast enough at the last race but the car went away towards the end, so we plan on a better showing this weekend, and no excuses for not winning.” Vernon added.
The ASA Speed Truck Challenge Series will join the SRL Wild West Late Model Series Saturday night, along with Mesa Marin’s own 911 Race for Youth Series.  Spectator gates open at 5pm, on-track autograph session at 6:30, with racing underway at 7:30.
An open practice for SRL Wild West Late Model Series teams will be held on Friday evening from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

MESA MARIN AND NASCAR MOVE FORWARD WITH WEEKEND EVENTS
Statement from Mesa Marin VP, Larry Collins

Bakersfield, CA – As we observe the latest information regarding the situation in Iraq, Mesa Marin and NASCAR will continue with our current schedule of events for the up coming weekend.

At the same time we will not lose sight of the sacrifices our troops and their families are making during this difficult time.  In a show of support of our troops, hundreds of American flags will be displayed during the singing of the National Anthem on Sunday prior to the start of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series “Lucas Oil 250”. Color guards representing the Navy and Air Force will be present and a Naval fly-by is scheduled.
