 JUNE 15th

Kevin Harvick Returns to Mesa Marin on June 26th

Bakersfield, CA – As a junior at North High School, Kevin Harvick became the youngest track champion in Mesa Marin’s history.  The year was 1993, and Harvick drove to an impressive Late Model series championship against a veteran field of drivers.

Since moving on from his home track, Harvick impressed as he progressed through the ranks of NASCAR;  Rookie-of-the-Year in the NASCAR AutoZone Southwest Series, a NASCAR Grand National West Series championship, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series success, a Busch Series championship, the NASACR Nextel Cup Rookie-of-the-Year and a full-time NASCAR Cup ride with the powerhouse team of Richard Childress Racing.

For the past two race seasons Harvick has taken time from his busy schedule to return to Mesa Marin to compete in a NASCAR Late Model event.  On both occasions, a capacity crowd watched as Harvick drove to victory after starting at the rear of the field.

On Saturday, June 26, Harvick will return to Mesa Marin to compete again and host an autograph session.  Along with Harvick, the legendary Bill Elliott, two-time Daytona 500 winner Sterling Marlin and a fourth Cup driver who will be announced next week will all accompany him to Mesa Marin.

“Kevin coming back to Mesa Marin for the past couple of years has been a lot of fun for us,” stated Mesa Marin owner Marion Collins.

“We really appreciate him (Kevin) coming back to Mesa Marin and bringing the other drivers this year.  He has always put on a great show for all the fans and we can’t wait for the 26th, it will be one of our biggest nights of the year.”  Collins concluded.

Racing on June 26th will feature NASCAR Late Models, ASA Speed Truck Challenge, ChevronTexaco High School Racing Series and the 911 Race for Youth Series plus a full blown aerial fireworks show.

Tickets are $20 for adults, children 6 – 12 are $5, free children admission passes at local Carl’s Jr.s and Texaco Xpress Lubes.  For more information call 661-366-5711 or http://www.mesamarin.com/.

MESA MARIN AND NASCAR MOVE FORWARD WITH WEEKEND EVENTS
Statement from Mesa Marin VP, Larry Collins

Bakersfield, CA – As we observe the latest information regarding the situation in Iraq, Mesa Marin and NASCAR will continue with our current schedule of events for the up coming weekend.

At the same time we will not lose sight of the sacrifices our troops and their families are making during this difficult time.  In a show of support of our troops, hundreds of American flags will be displayed during the singing of the National Anthem on Sunday prior to the start of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series “Lucas Oil 250”. Color guards representing the Navy and Air Force will be present and a Naval fly-by is scheduled.
