Bakersfield, CA (Sept. 26,
2004) Mike Duncan finished 3rd in the NAPA AUTO PARTS 200
NASCAR Grand National West Series Race Sunday at Douglas
County Speedway in Roseburg, Oregon. This stretched his lead
for the championship to 83 points over Austin Cameron. Duncan
drove his LUCAS OIL sponsored Chevrolet Monte Carlo to its 5th
POLE of the 2004 Season. Mike had been monitoring the weather
and knew it was going to be a factor in the race. Duncan knew
he had a good car and with weather conditions as they were he
knew he had to get out front and stay there. That's what he
did for the first 119 laps. The race was delayed for a day at
lap 67. The race was restarted in the morning and Duncan led
until the 3rd restart when a lapped car jumped the start and
forced Duncan into Cameron. The two drivers were battling for
the lead and tangled and spun on lap 120. Duncan came out of
it in 10th place with 80 laps to go. It was tough to pass
without using a bumper but Duncan ran hard and finished 3rd.
This was Mike Duncan's 20th consecutive top 10 finish, dating
back to the 2nd race of the 2003 Season.
Duncan finished 2nd in points for the Grand National West Series
Championship with 2 wins and 3 poles. He won the NASCAR Grand
National Series Race at Mesa Marin Raceway last October by
qualifying on the pole and leading all the laps in the race.
Duncan is a former Mesa Marin Track Champion. When asked about
the 2004 Season Mike Duncan said, " It has been a great year,
the only thing that keeps eluding us is a WIN even though we
have been close every race."
